| Say hello to my new little friend | 06.26.2010 |
As you probably could have guessed, I picked up my iPhone 4 on Thursday when they went on sale to the public. Since I am a rabid Apple fan and I love toys & technology, I've gotten all 4 phones that Apple has produced on the day they have been released. In fact, me and a few of my friends camped out for the first phone back in 2007.
This year, I took advantage of the RSVP system that Apple incorporated and reserved one they day they started taking reservations, but there will still crazy long lines when I went to the mall at lunchtime due to the slow activation process and overwhelming demand. Thankfully my outstanding employee Kathleen wanted a phone too and volunteered to stnad in line for us. I was able to sneak out of my Thursday night poker game and meet her at the mall just in time!
Anywho... after playing with the phone for a few days, I can once again say that Apple did not disappoint. The phone is amazing! I love it. I know there have been some media reports about a few people having issues, and those reports tend to get exaggerated, but I haven't experienced any problems with mine yet (knock on wood).

The feel of this phone is incredible. It's solid. When Steve remarked that it has the craftsmanship of an old Leica camera he wasn't kidding.
The new camera is amazing. 5 megapixels. I use my point & shoot camera less and less these days. I also like the front facing camera, which I intend to use often. The flash works really good too. (Except I am blinded for a few moments after each use. It's very powerful). The videos are also really clean!
The screen is gorgeous. So sharp, photos look amazing.
I love the unified inbox, but you don't have to get the new phone to get that. You just have to upgrade to the iOS4 software (FREE).
Same with multitasking & the folders for apps. Nice new features, but you don't need to get the new phone to take advantage of it.
The battery life is awesome. I used it all day yesterday. I left the house at 10am and I didn't get home until 1am and still had about a third of the battery icon remaining.
The new Facetime thing is neat, but I don't know how accessible I want to be for just anyone. I can see using it when I talk to Keats, or a super close friend, but I don't know that I need to talk face to face with just anyone. Also, I got a call while in the restroom yesterday and I had to go ahead and ignore that one.
Dislikes:
It's still on the AT&T network.
Other than that, the phone is awesome and I don't care what DJ says. ;-)
Here's a flash photo of Caden & I seeing Toy Story 3D yesterday:
