The World Series of Poker starts today in Las Vegas. For those of you who don't know... the WSOP is actually made up of 57 events, not just the main event that is shown on ESPN 2 every year. The main event starts around the 4th of July, but the actual series starts today. I played in the Main event back in 2007 and 2008, and I didn't get a chance to play last year. They buy in is $10,000, which there's no way I'd pay that, but I try to win my way in my playing & winning smaller tournaments called satellites. They are only $200 or $300, which is more my speed. I'll be heading out to LV sometime in June to try to win a seat to the big dance. I'll keep you posted on how I do so that you can look for me on ESPN.
It is one of my goals in life to win a WSOP bracelet. Oh yes, she will be mine!

In local news, the poker league that I host at my house came to an end last night. We play the first and third Thursday of every month. And instead of just paying out the winners each night, we take a portion of the pot and set it aside for the final "tournament of champions". Each week, depending on how you finish, you get a certain number of points. The better you do each night, the more points you get. At the end of the league, we take the top 6 players with the highest point totals and compete of the money we've been collecting for the last few months.
This season, I won the opening night, then never looked back and lead the league the entire way. Unfortunately last night, I came in 4th place out of 6th. I am actually really happy with the way I played, but just got really unlucky in a few key hands. Here are a few images take with my p&s camera and processed on my iPad.
How's this for a po-po-po-po-po-po-poker face?

J8 was the hand of the night. Not only did Curtis win with it. He also tripled up with it early on when he was pretty low. He's pretty much the luckiest guy I know.
