| The evolution of a brand | 03.19.2010 |
A lot of photographers credit me as having a well defined brand, or as a branding & marketing expert. Sure, I know a little, but it's only because of the team at Reddoor who has helped me along the way and taken such good care of me and my image.
They have outed me and and showed some of my pre [ b ] logo business cards, as well as the evolution of my brand over the last dozen years or so. Click the photo to check out the entire evolution.

The one with the film strips was my very first business cards. I had those made when I was still in high school and gave them to all of my friends so I could shoot their senior portraits, as well as their family's Christmas card photos.
The top left card with the clip art of the camera, was actually given to me as a gift for my high school graduation by a family friend. I ended up shooting both of their daughter's weddings.
The green logo was obviously inspired by Oakley, which was one of my favorite companies at the time. A kid at Kinko's actually helped me with that one.
The brown ones actually feature my handwriting, that was cleaned up in Illustrator by a graphic designer I was dating at the time. Notice the AOL email address and pager number? And do you guys remember fax machines? How old school!
My life changed in 1998 when I met Tim Holmes, an art student at the prestigious Art Center College of Design. He is the creator of the [ b ] logo and the one responsible for helping me understand branding, as well as defining my own brand. Over the years, we've developed a wonderful working relationship as well one of my most cherished friendships. His company, Reddoor Creative specializes in helping companies develop and execute branding strategies. They are very expensive and rightfully so, they are incredible talented and are worth every penny. Red by Reddoor is a new venture that aims to provide high quality branding at affordable prices and will be available soon. They specialize in helping photographers, so get on their mailing list and they'll let you know as soon as that service officially launches.
