high stakes poker night 11.05.2009

Last night my poker buddies came over for a special night of high stakes poker at my place. We raised the stakes, gave each player more chips to start with and limited it to only 10 players. It was intense. I didn't win. I don't want to talk about it.

Just kidding, we had a great time and I am looking forward to our league starting up again next Thursday, November 12th. I am excited about the league because it's not just 1 night of independent poker. We track the standings of each player based on how they finish each night on a point system. At the end of 14 weeks, the top 6 players in points will compete for a share of the winnings taken out of each night's pot. We have room for about 3 or 4 more players and it's a $40 buy in (with 1 optional rebuy). We play on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month until May (November is the 2nd & 3rd Thursday). If you want more info on the league, click here to check it out and then request a free membership if you are interested in playing with us.

But back to last night... we were playing for some big bucks:

I normally only wear the shades & Beats at the casino, but the stakes were higher last night so I got my poker face on in my garage:

Tomination was on fire last night. Look how intense this guy looks:

Victor won a huge pot off of me with pocket rockets and then eventually knocked me out when my pocket jacks ran into his AK suited and an Ace hit the flop.

Tony... international man of mystery... seems like a tough guy until you realize he's drinking tea:

Chris, also a tea drinker, shot some photos after he was the night's first casualty.

Curtis also made an early exit, but he sure has a good poker face eh?

I'm not scared of Jeff Claire:

Victor, Tom, Regis & Tony (left to right) were the final 4:

The last hand was brutal. Filled with drama... and cussing.

All the money got in preflop. Tom & Victor were almost tied in chips. Tom held A9 off and Victor held AJ suited and was a 71% favorite to win the hand preflop.

Tom hit a 3 outer when the flop came QcQs9h and now Tom was a 71% favorite.

The turn brought Victor the Jack of spades and he was now a 91% favorite to win the hand with just 1 card to come. Tom needed one of the two 9's left in the deck and sure enough, he hit a miracle river giving him the victory! Too bad the ESPN cameras weren't rolling. The drama. The suckout. It was intense! I felt bad for Victor, but that's poker... shit happens.

The portrait of a winner (and by winner I mean the luckiest SOB ever!):
