Miscellaneous monday 67 09.21.2009

_____

Flippin' Cowboys! Mondays are usually busy and stressful enough. I don't need the Cowboys to gift a victory to a division rival on Sunday night to put me in a bad mood to start off my week. That game was a joke. I flew home to the OC, through Dallas. We took off just as the game was starting and landed about the time it ended. I managed to not find out the score (more on that in the next segment) and my dad & I ended up watching the game on my DVR around 10pm. The Cowboys outplayed them in just about every aspect of the game, except ball control and even then almost won with a -4 turnover ratio. The bummer thing is, we can't even blame Jessica Simpson anymore. C'mon Romo... pull your head out of your ass and lets go!

I was also bummed that USC lost, but at least Trojan Alum Sanchez beat the Patriots. Pretty boy Brady was pretty classless just leaving the field after the game and didn't shake Mark's hand. Boo on Brady!

Ok, so here's my take on recoding sporting events on a DVR and the social web. I record lots of Angel games and watch them on Tivo later that night. Once you find out the final score, it's boring to watch a sporting even when you already know the outcome. I see a lot of people who record stuff, saying on Twitter... "no spoilers please". But I think, if you are recording something, it's your responsibility to make sure you don't find the score. You can't expect people not to tweet about things they are excited about, whether it's a football score, a UFC fight, or any other contest such as American Idol or Dancing with the Stars.

Yesterday, it was important to me that I did not find out the score to the Cowboys/Giants game, so as soon as it started, my iPhone went into airplane mode and I didn't turn it back on until after the game. During the game, I didn't check Facebook, my blog comments, text messages, voicemails, emails or anything like that. During the flight, for fear of the pilot piping up with the score over the PA, I cranked the tunes with my Beats headphones turned all the way up. Once we landed, I knew others would be checking in on their phones, so I kept the volume up loud and my eyes down. I didn't want to see people hi fiving or anything like that (it was a flight from Dallas so several people were wearing Cowboys jerseys). I walked by two airport bars, also with my eyes on the ground immediately in front of me.

I know it's a little much, but I really wanted to enjoy the game without having a clue about the outcome. Of course my team didn't win, but at least I got to enjoy a couple hours of drama.

Also in NFL news... if you are an iPhone user who also has DirecTv's Sunday Ticket... you can watch the games live on your phone with the NFL SuperFan App. It's not in HD or anything like that, but it came in very handy during a long day of traveling. It may also help if you find yourself somewhere you don't want to be like if you get stuck going to a shower, or a kids birthday party, or shopping with your wife, etc... ;-)

Here's an actual screen cap from the Chargers game:

I saw The Informant the other night and loved it. I thought Matt Damon was great. Hard to believe it was the same guy who plays Jason Bourne. I don't want to give anything away, but I found myself laughing, thinking, and trying to keep up. It was an interesting piece of story telling. Go see it!

Out of all the new fall shows I've seen so far, I'm likin' Community the best. If you missed the premiere, you can watch full episodes here (only 1 so far).

I was stoked to see 30 Rock get the Emmy for the best comedy again. That show is awesome. I saw Mad Men also won for best Drama. I bought the first two seasons on iTunes once they won the Emmy for best new Drama, but honestly I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a decent show but far from the best Drama on television. That would be Dexter, which premieres this Sunday on Showtime in case you were wondering.

I am headed to the Angles vs. Yankees game tonight. I haven't been to many games this year due to my schedule, but it looks like no matter what happens tonight, the Angels are looking good to win the AL West (their magic number is down to 7), but it also looks like they'll be playing Boston in the first round of the playoffs again. Perhpas we'll find a way to beat them this year.

I love Thank You notes. I think everyone likes to feel appreciated. I am not posting this to try to encourage people to send them, but instead because I wanted the people who sent them this last week to know that they've made my day and that they are most certainly welcome!
