| happy father's day | 06.17.2007 |
Happy dad's day to all the fathers out there. I am heading over to the parental unit's house today to celebrate with my family and I am just so thankful for the relationship I have with my dad. Over the last few years, he has helped me so much with my business and he has always been supportive of me in whatever I've done (my mom too, but it's Father's Day so this post is just going to be about my pop). We've also developed a friendship that I cherish above all others. We just get along and he's my hero.
Today I wanted to talk about my memories and thoughts of my dad as I was growing up. I really feel lucky to have had amazing supportive parents and I have learned so much from them. I can't remember my dad ever missing a little league game, and he even coached for many years. We also used to umpire little league games together when I was old enough. I used to love going to Angel games with my dad and I still do! I remember getting up early on Saturdays and fishing on Lake Mission Viejo. I remember one of those fishing trips when it was time for the "birds and the bees talk"! UNCOMFORTABLE!
I can remember the time I told my parents that I wasn't going to college, and that I was going to pursue this "photography hobby" of mine. I think they were disappointed at first, but after I explained everything and they saw my passion for it... they were on board and cosigned for a credit card so I could get some professional gear. I'll never forget that.
I'll also never forget the life lessons my dad taught me. Family First! There is nothing more important than your family. He has also been a shining example of what it means to have integrity and strength of character. My dad did not have a great childhood. He mother passed away when he was 5 and his dad was... well let's just say his dad never got any votes for father of the year and we'll leave it at that. I am amazed at how well he turned out in spite of his circumstances.
He also taught me to stand up for what I believe in even if others try to persecute me and I am proud to have a hard head like him and that I stick to my guns.
When I was growing up, I never wanted kids because I didn't think I'd ever be able to be as good of a dad as my dad was/is. Now I am still not sure if I want kids or not, but I know if I do become a father, I have a great role model and I'll just do what he did.
It's so awesome to see him be a grandpa to Caden. He just loves that kid so much and spoils him rotten as a grandparent should.
I'll post some photos from today later on, in the mean time, check out last Father's Day.
Happy Father's Day dad... I love you and I am so thankful for everything you are in my life!
