WPPI 2011

03.02.2011
The week is spend in Las Vegas for WPPI each winter is always one of the highlights of my year. This year was no exception and it marked my 15th year in a row attending the annual convention for wedding & portrait photographers. I am still trying to recover from the lack of sleep from last week and I am still trying to process everything that happened last week.

It was truly an amazing experience. I am so thankful for all of the love and support I received from my fellow photographers. It was great to see old friends and I am blessed by so many of the new folks that I met at well. I am so thrilled with the feedback I got on the new & improved [ b ] School. It was so nice to be able to hold my head up high and not have to apologize for the speed of the site (that happened a lot at WPPI 2009/2010). I was also very encouraged that people seemed to enjoy my platform class and the party we hosted. I was also very motivated that people noticed that I've been losing weight. I actually managed to shed a few pounds after 8 days in Vegas and now I am down over 40lbs in total.

Here's Keats & I at the Mandarin Oriental on our first night in town:

Sunday was cheat day, so we started off at brunch at Simon with about a dozen people. These Snicker's bar waffles were amazing!

Sunday afternoon I spoke to a packed house of about 1,500 of my peers. People ask me if I get nervous at all being on stage and to be honest... I really don't. I am always excited to share my passion for photography and thankful to WPPI for allowing me to speak.

Sunday night was the 11th annual [ b ] Party at Dos Caminos at the Palazzo hotel. We packed over 500 bodies into their lounge and had an blast as per usual! FYI... next year we'll be having our party on Sunday night again (Feb 19, 2012) so save the date and make plans to be there. Can you say [ b ] School prom?

I want to thank Mike Hanline from WHCC for helping out with the bar tab at the party. WHCC has been my lab for over 5 years and they are simply the best in the business. I am so thankful for their support for both my photography business and what we are doing at the [ b ] School. Her'e Mike at his lovely wife Diane at the party.

I met Zach & Jody in London back in January. They are super nice and some of the hottest up and coming photographers in the nation.

Here we are with Jeff & Jessica at Mix. They just moved into their new house right after WPPI and are expecting their first little boy this summer.

On Monday night we went to the Mad Men party hosted by our friend Victor Sizemore over at the Palms. It was awesome. And Victor would want me to let you know that "that ain't no clip on bow tie!"

More good times at the Mad Men party:

Lucky me... I was able to get my photo taken with the one and only Jasmine Star! She did an amazing job rocking the stage at the MGM Garden Arena! (photographers can see a recent interview I did with Jasmine here)

5 years ago, I crashed a Mike Colon workshop down in Laguna Beach, so last week I also crashed their reunion get together at the MGM Grand. It's amazing to see how successful the people who attended that workshop have become.

For the past 6 years, I've done a free avatar shoot and this year it was amazing too. If you came out to our shoot on the Strip last week, click the image below to view and download your files.

And finally, I need to give a huge shout out and thank you to the men responsible for bringing the new [ b ] School to life... Patrick Chang and Jon Farjo. The dedication, the vision, the hard work, the skill and the passion these two brought to our project is amazing and I will forever be grateful for them. If you haven't joined our tribe yet... what are you waiting for? This is the premiere online community for wedding & portrait professionals on the web. Not only is it a state of the art website that will continually evolve with the times, it's filled with some amazing people who are dedicated to our core principle of "photographers helping photographers". Click the photo below to sign up!

Thanks to everyone who was a part of my WPPI. I really appreciate all the feedback I received and I especially want to thank those who came to see my platform talk and I want to thank all of my [ b ] Schoolers for their continued support.
