Today at 2:15, I'll be at the @WHCCpro booth talking about the controversial "what to do with the digital files?" issue. #thebschool  |  Follow me

Hey there! My name is Becker and I am a wedding photographer from Orange County, California who specializes in capturing relaxed portraits, amazing details and real moments for the coolest brides and grooms on the planet.

This blog follows both my personal and professional life, and features images from the weddings I shoot, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me. It's basically like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients and a source of inspiration and education for other photographers. This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about. Thanks for visiting.

San Diego Wedding Photographer, Leo Cabrillo Ranch 09.29.2009

Back in February of 2005, I went to Kenya with my church on a mission trip. On that trip I met a girl who told me that whenever she got married, she'd be calling me to take her pictures. Well, this past Sunday my friend Kim got married and I was there with my camera to document the entire thing.

This first photo was from our trip to Kenya taken in the township of Kitale:

Her wedding took place at the Carrillo Ranch in northern San Diego County.

She was a tad late, but worth the wait:

The bride brought her point & shoot camera up the aisle with her and shot a photo of the audience from her perspective. As you can see, my timing is impeccable as always! ;-)

I watched the season premiere of Dexter last night. It was a great episode and the preview for the entire season looks amazing! If you don't have Showtime you are missing out. If you've never seen Dexter, I recommend picking up Season 1 on DVD or iTunes and watching the first three seasons before watching this one. I think it's the best show on television today.
_____

I did much better in my #nflpix yesterday. I only lost two games. Detroit actually one a game for a change and then the Bengals upset the Steelers (sorry Paul). Brett Favre saved the day with an incredible pass with 2 seconds left in the Vikings win over the 49ers.

I am looking forward to the Cowboy game tonight and at the same time, I'll be checking in on the Angles who will clinch the AL West with a win.

Hey photographers, here's what is going on with me in October:

Sign up for Miami

I forgot to mention in the video, that I fly to SF early on the 12th and I am thinking of doing a [ b ] School photo field trip during the day before the Smug meet up. I'll be posting the details inside of the [ b ] School soon.

Anyone have any Apple tablet rumors they'd like to share with the class?

I am typing this post from my backyard. I inherited Keats' patio furniture since her new pad is a loft and she doesn't have a yard. It's a glorious day here in SoCal and I plan on laptopping and blogging from my backyard often. I can't wait to hang at her new place though. She moves in this week... I'll conveniently miss all the heavy lifting as I'll be in Omaha that day. Whew!
_____

I downloaded the Best Camera App for my iPhone the other day and it's pretty awesome and it was developed by fellow photographer Chase Jarvis. For just $2.99 you get some cool filters that help your easily process your iPhone snaps and it also helps you share it directly through Facebook, Twitter and even on their own site. He also has a book out titled "The Best Camera is the One That's With You".

With that, here's the iPhone pic o' the week which was taken from my seat in the 2nd row behind the Angel's dugout:

Tweet of the week #2000 (watch the video in this one if you missed it the other day)

Shout out of the week: Goes to Brevity, I've blogged about it before, but I just love the "cliffnotes of cliffnotes" on the popular business books of the day. It's an awesome service for those who want knowledge and insight, but don't have the time to read.

Engagement Photos in San Juan Capistrano, OC wedding photographer 09.27.2009

Three days in a row, three engagement sessions. The couple brought me some Sprinkles cupcakes, so they get a few extra photos posted! We had a blast shooting in the Los Rios District in San Juan Capistrano around the corner from the Mission. The light was gorgeous and the couple was super fun and relaxed. I really do love shooting engagement photos... it's just a great chance to let the couple get used to my pace and style of shooting, plus they get to know me a bit as a person and it makes the wedding day go so much smoother.

Laguna Beach Engagement Photos by OC photographer 09.26.2009

These two hired me a couple of years ago to shoot their wedding, but due to some crazy circumstances, hotel remodeling projects & construction, they had to change their wedding date several times. This finally settled on a Sunday next month at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel and I am looking forward to being a part of their day.

Little Rock Engagement Photos 09.24.2009

Last week while in Arkansas for a wedding, I also hosted a workshop for some local photographers. It took place at the Capitol Hotel in downtown Little Rock. I taught mostly about the business of photography, we took a break and I shot a mock engagement session to demonstrate how I get my style of relaxed portraits on such a consistent basis. This couple is actually getting married next year and Dale Benfield is shooting the wedding. Thanks to Dale for lending me his clients and thanks to Brooke and Patrick for being fabulous models.

Here a few images from the session:

Hot Springs photo safari 09.23.2009

Last Friday when I arrived in Hot Springs, the childhood home of President Clinton, Dale Benfield & I walked the town for a mini photo field trip before we had to shoot the rehearsal diner. We were just goofing around and I was talking with my fake southern drawl as everything sounds funnier with an accent, so you have to read the captions of these photos and just imagine my twang.

But first, we had a little adventure on the trip to Hot Springs from Little Rock as we got a flat tire (and had to change it ourselves in the middle of nowhere). This of course happened after Dale wrecked the first rental car while still at the airport. He may not be much of a driver, but he sure does take purdy pickchures.

"Yup, we're in Ar-Kansas all righty... the Presidential portrait is painted on wood... none of that fancy-schmancy canvas stuff":

3

So we're walking along and I'm like, "Hmm... is that a grenade on the lawn?" and then Dale's like, "We take our 2nd amendment rights quite seriously here in the Natural State":

4

"Tonight playing at the Central Theatre... nuthin... agin":

12

"Heck, why spend money on tintin' yer windows when ply wood does the trick just fine?":

17

"If you get yer pecker dirty, you can take it here":

10

"Here in Hot Springs, the sidewalks are paved with linoleum. Gold is too expensive":

8

"It must take some extra special talent to take off your clothes while butchering 'Living on a Prayer'":

5

"Down at the Starlight, we've got a free pool and you can watch teevee!" (Only in Arkansas can they misspell TV)

4

I don't have a funny caption for this one, but I just like the color & texture.

Garvan Gardens Wedding Photography 09.22.2009

Last weekend I found myself in the Natural State, Arkansas for a wedding near Hot Springs at Garvan Woodland Gardens. The place was amazing! The location was so cool, the couple is gorgeous, the families were awesome... I know the groom's family since I shot an older sister's wedding a few years back and the brides family just expended their Southern hospitality and made us feel so welcomed. I love shooting the siblings of past clients and I also love it when the clients make the extra effort to fly my in to shoot... I feel extra special because they obviously really wanted me to be a part of their day and I take a lot of pride in that.

This was a fun wedding. It had moonshine, a gelato bar, cute bridesmaids and a politically charged cake topper and the ceremony took place in a glass chapel in the middle of the woods. Here are a few of my favorite "Relaxed Portraits, Amazing Details and Real Moments". As usual, be sure to vote for your favorites:

I do love when the couple decides to see each other before the ceremony. I seems to make the day go a lot smoother and it's so nice to just get the photos out of the way before the ceremony, that way you can just celebrate with your friends and family afterwards. These guys had a nice first look moment at the historic Arlington Hotel.

Special thanks to Arkansas wedding photographer Dale Benfield for second shooting with me as well as providing chauffeur services while I was in his home state. Be sure to check his blog for more images from this fabulous day.
