Today at 2:15, I'll be at the @WHCCpro booth talking about the controversial "what to do with the digital files?" issue. #thebschool  |  Follow me

Hey there! My name is Becker and I am a wedding photographer from Orange County, California who specializes in capturing relaxed portraits, amazing details and real moments for the coolest brides and grooms on the planet.

This blog follows both my personal and professional life, and features images from the weddings I shoot, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me. It's basically like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients and a source of inspiration and education for other photographers. This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about. Thanks for visiting.

the half hour shower 08.31.2007

Ok, I admit this is an odd topic to blog about, but I just have to tell you about the shower I took early this morning. It was amazing. I last showered Sunday morning before heading to Burning Man. I spent 2 complete days driving in an RV and another 3 trekking around the dusty desert environment of Black Rock City. By the time I made it back to my house, it had been well over 100 hours since I’d taken a shower. The deodorant was caked on under my arms, my hair was just a tad shy of turning into dreadlocks, and the wet wipes only did so much. Just be thankful there are no photos in this post.

I longed for my shower. And within minutes of pulling into my driveway, I had the shower warming up as I peeled my clothes off. I stepped into my sanctuary, and watched the nasty grime rinse off my body. I literally just stood there for about 5 minutes before I even started washing. All in all, it was like a half hour shower, complete with a shave, shampoos and conditioning and a full on body scrub. Got loofa?

I’ll also admit that I am a guy who likes his shower products. I think I use more products than most guys and even a few girls for that matter. Here’s a run down in case any of your are interested (I know you are!)

Shampoo: Aveda’s Blue Malva. It’s purple and I just like the way it smells and leaves my head feeling clean.

Conditioner: I don't actually condition that often, 'cause... ya know... I'm a guy. So I just used the stuff I got from the W in NYC last week. It's from Bliss. I tend to stock up on hotel toiletries since I travel so often. At one time I actually used to collect products from hotels around the world, but I gave up on that a while ago and donated the stuff to a shelter.

Body Wash: Axe Boost body scrub. The directions read: Apply to wet skin, scrub, be clean. smell great. Side effects include the "unrelenting attention of women and/or late nights". (they are right!)

Face Wash: Foaming Face Wash by Bliss. Gotta unclog those pores!

Shaving Cream & Razor: I hate shaving. I usually only do it on Saturdays before the wedding, and Wednesdays just so I don’t look to scary by the weekend. But I am telling you guys, buy these two products and you’ll thank me. I use Blade Runner shaving cream that you can get at Origins. It’s way better than any of the canned products you get at the supermarket. I also use the new Gillette Fusion with 5 blades. It provides a super comfortable shave and then it also has a single blade on the other side to get those three hairs right under your nose that are so hard to get.

Ok, those are my shower tips for the day. I just wanted to share how wonderful I felt when I got out of the shower in the wee hours of the morning. It's the simple things in life that can sometimes make us the most happy!

update from Black Rock City 08.30.2007

Man, just a few minutes of web access per day and no cell phone is hard! We are having a blast. We are on the way home from Burning Man and my iPhone is finally back to life. I'll be posting the rest of the images as well as a complete wrap up of my experience on Tuesday, but for now... I'll leave you with the Truth:

Shootsac does Burning Man 08.29.2007

Keats, Marisa and I are having an amazing adventure at Burning Man. I only wish Jessica was also here to play with us, but someone has to make a living. Jess is in the middle of a crazy strech where she is shooting 5 weddings, in 3 countries, in 2 weeks. Here I am sporting my Shootsac with cool hair (which hasn't been washed in days) and my favorite shirt.

The infamous flamingos were a big hit, and it also made it wasy for us to find each other:

Burning man update 08.28.2007

Wow. That's all I have to say for now. I will write about my Burning Man experience after it's over and I've had some time to process what I've witnessed.

For now, enjoy a few frames that I've captured so far with my point and shoot. (Many more will be posted in the coming days)

Blogging from my iPhone with photos!!!! 08.27.2007

Well, one of the only disappointments from the first version of my iPhone is the inability to blog and post photos directly from my iPhone because of the lack of a file browser. I am certain future versions will take care of that problem, but for now, I have found a work around.

I can now, email images directly to my iPhone photo gallery, (which in future posts can be found under the "links" tab at the top of this blog). I will be able to write about an experience I am having from the iPhone and then just tell people to check that link to see the latest photos. It's not perfect, but it's going to work for now, plus it keeps all my iPhone photos together. The subject line of the email becomes the caption of the photo as well, which is pretty cool too.

All you need is a .Mac account, iPhoto '08 and an iPhone. You can find the directions on this this web page.

(I know some folks have been able to send the images to flickr via email, then embed them into their blogs, but that seems like a lot of work and this way seems to be a lot easier for now).

Anyway, here is a photo from my iPhone taken in time Square last week (which was not uploaded through my phone):

By the way, just a few more days to submit your photos for the iPhone abstract photo contest.

Programming Note 08.26.2007

I am out of the office... AGAIN!

Normally it's not a big deal when I travel, because Kathleen runs the show around here, but she is still out enjoying her new baby Hannah, and won't be back for a while.

I want to give my clients a heads up of my schedule, so that you know what's going on.

I am off to Burning Man from Sunday through Thursday this week, and I am not sure how my web or cell phone access will be (plus the point of BM is to escape from the rat race so I doubt I'll be checking emails or messages anyway).

I will be back in town this coming Labor Day weekend, Friday through Monday because I have a wedding Saturday, and I'll be returning calls and emails then.

On Tuesday, September 4th, Jessica and I are off to Greece to shoot a destination wedding in Santorini. I get back the following week and immediately fly to the Bay area for an awesome wedding in Napa! I will be back in the office on September 17th and won't be leaving for a while after these next few trips.

Don't fret, Gina will still be slaving away on the albums so there shouldn't be any delays on albums that are already in production. Also, during my Greece trip, Keats will be in the office every once and a while returning calls and emails trying to answer as many questions as she can.

Thank you so much in advance for your patience and continue to check the blog to follow the adventures of [ b ]!

Also, don't forget that the deadline for the iPhone abstract photo contest is this coming Friday at Midnight. I'll post the winner and honorable mentions on Saturday. FYI, the abstract photos so far are much better than the self portraits. Send your photos in ASAP! Here's another one of mine that I shot in NYC the other day (and yes, I cheated by running this through Photoshop, but you are not allowed to for the contest. All images must be sent straight out of the iPhone):

pageant of the masters 08.25.2007

Last night, Jessica and I went to see the world famous, Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. It was part of her birthday present, and we had a night full of good food and a little culture. For those who aren't familiar with the Pageant, it's "90 minutes of living pictures - incredibly faithful art re-creations of classical and contemporary works with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces". (quoted from the website above).

It's really something to see. They also have an insane orchestra, which plays as a narrator describes the artwork and a little bit about the artist who created it. It was very educational and quite entertaining. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Pageant, and I am really glad that we got to go.

Also on the grounds, is the Festival of Arts, where local artists display their creations. A former photography instructor of mine, Bill Agee, is displaying his work for the 20th consecutive year. You can see some of his new work that was on display. I have always been impressed how Bill reinvents himself every year and tries something new. He is an infrared specialist, but in the last few years, he has experimented with digital techniques as well as mixed media. He happened to be at his booth tonight, so Jessica and I were able to chat with him for a few minutes before the performance.

It's only open through next weekend, and tickets to the Pageant are sold out (although they are available from brokers) but it's something definitely worth checking out next summer if you find yourself in Southern California.
