Hey there! My name is Becker and I am a wedding photographer from Orange County, California who specializes in capturing relaxed portraits, amazing details and real moments for the coolest brides and grooms on the planet.
This blog follows both my personal and professional life, and features images from the weddings I shoot, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me. It's basically like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients and a source of inspiration and education for other photographers. This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about. Thanks for visiting.

| Poker after Dark |
07.31.2008 |

One of my favorite shows to record and watch is Poker After Dark on NBC. It comes on at like 2am, so I usually just watch it the next day. The action is great and the behind the scenes conversations are very entertaining. I get great tips and insight to help my poker game.
Well last night we had our own version of poker after dark. After a long tournament out on the back patio (it was a lovely evening here in the OC), we took it inside for the cash game. Around 3:45am, the flippin' power went out in the entire neighborhood and we were playing poker in the dark. I used my cell photo to find the flashlight, and the flashlight to find the candles, and just a few minutes later we were back in business.
Notice how everyone has their own tea light so they were able to see their cards (Gary representing in the corner): |

| Thanks to Regis, we were able to see the flop. |

| Mike Colon and Jessica Claire mixing it up. It was Mike and Jessica heads up in the tournament, which Jess won when her JJ held up against Mike's 22): |

| We gave up shortly after 4 and then about 10 minutes after everyone left, the power came back on. Good times! |

| we just had a decent sized earthquake in SoCal. it wasn't the big one, but it was pretty scary. my house was rockin' pretty good. a few books fell off of my shelf and one frame fell. it felt long. i'm still shaking a bit. the news just said it was 5.4, it doesn't appear to have caused any major damage thank the Good Lord. I'll still never forget the Northridge quake from '94. |

_____
What a great weekend. Very relaxing but quite productive. I had some quality alone time, I spent some of it with my family and I even got a little poker in.
_____
My email inbox is completely empty! Such a good feeling. I replied to a ton of messages this weekend then just deleted the rest! Free at last, free at last!
_____
I updated my website with some fresh photos and my new promo slideshow should be ready very soon!
_____
So y'all know I fancy myself as a professional TV watcher and I like to think I have really good taste and I'm a good judge of what is quality programming. I blogged about Dexter after the first episode and told y'all how awesome it was and sure enough... that show kicks ass (by the way, check out the site for a season 3 trailer, it starts September 28th).
Anyway, I finally caught the first couple episodes of Generation Kill on my DVR last night and it's insane. It's on HBO and you can catch the first three episodes in order when the rerun them tomorrow night. It's so well made, and awesome. Click on the photo below and then watch the trailer (and also check out how cool the website is).

Also on the tube, The 2008 World Series of Poker starts tomorrow on ESPN. A new episode will be shown every Tuesday with reruns showing all the flippin' time.
_____
The NFL Preseason kicks off this coming Sunday evening with the Colts and Redskins on NBC. The real season kicks off September 7th. I hope Tony Romo & Jessica Simpson break up before then. Well, that's not true. I hope they get engaged and call me to shoot the wedding, but she doesn't have to come to the games does she?
_____
I woke up this morning with a huge pimple on the end of my nose. I know that's TMI, but I look like Rudolf. Just thought I'd share. Sorry, no photo.
_____
I also woke up to find my 500th follower on Twitter, (thanks @bdunckel). I wonder how long it will take me to get to 1,000?
_____
I just got a copy of Your Wedding Day magazine in my mail. Not sure why they sent it to me, but it looks like a really nice publication. If I were one to advertise, I may look into them, but I don't, so I won't!
_____
Attention photographers: I am so excited and I just can't hide it! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!
We have a major [ b ] school announcement coming this Friday to be sent out to our entire email list. Be sure to click the button below if you haven't already done so. We've be planning this for so long and it's finally just about here. Don't be left out!

| Corona del Mar Engagement Sesion |
07.26.2008 |

I cruised down to Corona del mar the other day for another late afternoon engagement session. The two crazy kids are getting married at the Montage this October.
We started in their backyard: |

| Then found this cool little cave down at the beach: |

| And finally ended up on the bluff at sunset with his '62 Vette: |

| USC engagement session |
07.24.2008 |

| So you probably remember these folks from last Saturday's wedding. This is the groom's brother from last weekend and his fiance. They are getting married next month, so I'll be hanging with the same family again. I love when that happens. Here are some of my favorite images from their engagement session taken on the USC campus the other day. |

| Added bonus: Today is my friend Shawn & Lindsay's 10 year wedding anniversary. They hired me when I was just starting out and Lindsay was one of the original Becker Brides. Congratulations you guys! |

So 5 years ago, when my buddy Trevor was renting a room from me, we decided to do a little science experiment. You see, I have a refrigerator out in my garage, that is basically just there to store frosty beverages. There's no food of any kind stores in there, just beer, soda and wine. Oh, and milk.
In June of 2003, when an unopened gallon of milk expired, we decided to put it in the outside fridge, and see if anything would happen to it and planned on reporting the results.
Then we forgot about it. It was way in the back behind some bottles of 2 buck chuck (which is probably vinegar by now). I found it when I was cleaning the garage a few months ago, but then wanted to blog about it after it was 5 years expired. Then I forgot about it again until just the other day.
So here it is: |

|

From what I can tell, the milk has separated, and most of it is clear-ish, with sediments gathering around the handle and the bottom. I didn't want to take it out of the fridge for fear that the plastic bottle would bust and I'd have sour milk all over the place.
I am now wondering what should I do with it? Should I send it to Fear Factor and see if they want to dare their contestants to drink it? Should I just shoot video of people smelling it when we take the lid off? Should I call in a Haz-Mat unit and ask them to dispose of it? I'm afraid to just throw it in the trash. Should I try to go for 10 years? Maybe the Jack Ass guys could have some fun with it? Help me out folks... leave me some suggestions below.
Wanna know something crazy? I love milk so much that even seeing this nasty milk doesn't make me not want to have milk. (I just don't want this milk).
Speaking of milk, the first person who can identify the movie this line came from can be my new BFF (no fair using Google or any other cheating by using the web):
"No milk, will ever be our milk." |

Happy Hump Day everyone!
_____
Check this out: Shortly after the All Star game last Tuesday, I was in my bedroom watching the post game wrap up and working on my computer, when all of a sudden, I heard a loud snap that scared the bejesus out of me. I looked up to see the picture on my plasma TV go out, followed shortly thereafter by the sound going away, and now it doesn't even turn on. Thankfully I got the warrantee and so far, the Best Buy folks have been easy to deal with. I couldn't find my receipt since I bought it 2 years ago, but when I went into the store, they had it on file and it was easy to schedule service and they are coming over soon. Hopefully it'll be just as easy to fix or replace it.

I still haven't seen the Dark Knight. I hear it's excellent. I am waiting for the crowds to die down.
_____
The other day I picked up the laptop connect card from AT&T and it's awesome. It's almost as fast as the broadband I have at my house and it's just so nice and convenient. No more hotel Wi-Fi connect charges for me! The thing is going to end up being free once I get the mail in rebate.
_____
Last night I head a song at a bar and I really liked it. The Shazam app on my iTunes couldn't ID it. It was a clubby, techno, funky obscure tune that I really liked. The only lyrics I remember were "I like chocolate cake". It was a girl singing and a guy talking/singing. I wish I paid more attention to the song, but I figured Shazam could figure it out, and by the time it said it couldn't, the song was over. I doubt the song was titled chocolate cake, it just had it in the melody a couple of time. I tired Google, but not luck. If anyone can find it for me, I'll be your BFF.

Is anyone up for going to the OC Fair this Friday night? Leave a comment if you are down!
_____
There's a new U2 release on the iTunes Music Store. It's from a live concert in Paris from 1987. It has a 10 minute version of "With or Without You"... awesomeness!
_____
Be sure to check back tomorrow for a very disturbing post.

And lastly, for the past year or so, my water heater has been slowly dying. With each shower, my hot water time has grown shorter and shorter. After a 2 and a half minute shower the other day, I decided enough was enough. My dad and his handyman friend installed a new water heater, and I love my showers again! I am sure the water bill will be going up, but at least I won't feel like I'm camping in my own home.
My new best friend: |
