Hey there! My name is Becker and I am a wedding photographer from Orange County, California who specializes in capturing relaxed portraits, amazing details and real moments for the coolest brides and grooms on the planet.

This blog follows both my personal and professional life, and features images from the weddings I shoot, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me. It's basically like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients and a source of inspiration and education for other photographers. This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about. Thanks for visiting.

Gothenburg Workshop 05.17.2009

We got a gorgeous day to shoot in Gothenburg for the second Swedish workshop. Alex, took a train ride down to model again but this time Angelica joined us. As per usual I strive to find nice light and interesting locations to capture my signature style relaxed portraits. You'd never know Angelica is engaged to another man. Shhh... don't tell her fiance! ;-)

Oh, and I am going to throw this out just one more time... Princess Victoria of Sweden is getting married next June. I am open that day but probably not for much longer. If anyone knows her, send her on over to thebecker.com ASAP. Thanks.

Also, to all of the Swedish photographers who attended my workshops, you can find your headshots here.

Ok, now that you've seen both sets of images, please vote below and settle the Swedish East Coast/West Coast rivalry. (if you missed stockholm, scroll down or click here).

Stockholm Workshop 05.16.2009

Ok, so I've been posting a bunch of fun shots & art images from my European vacation, but actually... I was in Sweden to teach a series of workshops. This first in Stockholm, then a week later in Gothenburg. Most of my workshop was about marketing, branding and business, but we did go out for a mock portrait session with a bride & groom, followed by a demo of my workflow.

Here are a few of the images from the Stockholm workshop. Tomorrow I will post the shots from Gothenburg and y'all can vote on which set you like better. Apparently they have an east coast west coast rivalry going between those cities similar to LA & NYC.

FYI, this isn't an actual couple... they are hired models, so it was a little challenging to get them to show some love. Well... Alex had no problem as he's quite the ladies man. Poor Johanna had to practically beat him off with a stick. Just kidding... she was a good sport.

A member of the Zoolander really, really, really good looking club:

He was quite charming too, the girl on the left almost gave him her number, but she was really shy and didn't say much.

"Hey class... get outa my background!"

Check back tomorrow for some images from the west coast!

behind the scenes Sweden 05.15.2009

Here are some behind the scenes action shots from the Sweden workshops. Thanks to the following photographers for sending photos or tagging me on Facebook:

Petra Hall, Alicia Swedenborg, Erika Gerdemark, Benny, Andreas & Therese Ottosson (it's a whole family of photographers), Kate Gabor, Jenny Jansson, Jenny Hammar, Monika Manowska, Magnus Persson, Nouna Andersson, Mikaela Rudhner, Justin Jagare, Fredrik Setterberg, Karen Linde, Emilia Dalen & Susanne Hjalber & Kristina Holm (please let me know if I missed anyone who's photos I posted).

Also, special thanks to Jenny Blad for organizing the entire thing and John Hagby for his help and hospitality. (I posted a video John made on the [ b ] School blog).

Check out the sweet dome:

I was just lounging around during my workshop, sharing a nice shot taken from a low angle:

Typical...

Super [ b ]! Or just plain superb if you prefer:

Representing the Apple apparel in Gothenburg:

Jessica & I walking with the models & class in Stockholm:

There was a Canon rep who came to each of the shoots to let students borrow lenses to play with and of course I hogged the 200mm f/2 lens. Soon!:

On our last night in town, we went to a BBQ at John Hagby's place and played a game called "kubb" or as I like to call it "stick". You basically just throw sticks at other sticks. Apparently it's super fun if you are wasted... but I only had 3 cups of Pepsi Max.

Benny (rockin' the Rod Stewart shirt) has recruited his kids Andreas and Therese into the family business.

Justin, an America living in Sweden, had to get between Jess & I because we kept goofing around:

Rollin' with the Gnomies:

My new Swedish girlfriend. I wanted to take her home but she wouldn't fit in my luggage:

Neither would these two:

Again with the 200/2:

A few more from Monika:

Check back for even more photos from the workshops in the coming days.

Home Sweet Home 05.14.2009

For as much as I love to travel and experience new places and cultures, I sure do love coming home to beautiful Mission Viejo and sleep in my own bed. I'll be posting more images from my trip in the coming days, but in the mean time, enjoy this lovely image of me holding baby Mildred (click the photo to see her mom's website):

Gwendolyn Part 1 05.13.2009

please enter the password to view this entire post:

Right before I left for Sweden, I shot a beautiful young model for my ongoing fine art nude project. Of course I enjoyed shooting her and she is a wonderful model, but I also like that she is trying to make the most of social networking, which I haven't seen too many models do just yet. You can follow her on Twitter, subscribe to her Facebook fan page and check out Gwendolyn Jane's Daily Photo Blog where she posts a new photo every day from her various shoots.

To see the rest of the images, enter "gwen" in the password box. If you are offended by artistic nudity, check out thebecker.com instead.

If you would like to model for this project, or know anyone who would, just drop me a line and I'll get you more details.

Istanbul, Day 2 05.12.2009

Today's post contains a history lesson kids. Feel free to read up on each of the Wikipedia links below. First stop, Topkapi Palace:

This is a piece of art inside of the Galata Tower, which towers over the skyline on the north side of European Istanbul. (I posted an image of that skyline the other day, 4th photo down).

stockholm, a morning stroll 05.11.2009

Ok, so this American photographer who lives in Sweden, Justin from Daniel Photo invited me to get up around 4:30am the other day to take a stroll through the city to shoot around sunrise. He obviously doesn't know me very well because I am not a morning person, but due to the time difference, I was wide awake at 4am so I decided to take him up on it. We went through old town, the same place Jess & I shot the first day, but it was much different first thing in the morning. No one was around, the streets were empty, the shops were closed and the light was beautiful.

By the way... I asked Justin what made him decide to leave the US and move to Sweden. What else could it be... a girl. Hook, line, sinker.

If you've never been to Stockholm, the city is basically a bunch of islands separated by waterways and connected by bridges. Almost like Venice, Italy, except no gondolas and there are plenty of cars (and this city is a lot bigger). It's a beautiful place.

Apparently this is the police station (or at least that's what I was told).

The morning sun, bouncing off buildings even made this shaded wall look really warm.

I loved the reflection from the window across the way...

... and the light bouncing off the cobblestone:

This is the Royal Palace. It's currently under renovation since Princess Victoria is going to be getting married next year. I wonder if they found there photographer yet. If not, they should check out thebecker.com!

We just missed the changing of the guard, but I did manage to get them marching away. (Btw, the changing of the guard at Arlington is much cooler, same with at Lenin's tomb is Red Square (although I don't think they do it anymore).

That's right, I am punk!
