Today at 2:15, I'll be at the @WHCCpro booth talking about the controversial "what to do with the digital files?" issue. #thebschool | Follow me
Hey there! My name is Becker and I am a wedding photographer from Orange County, California who specializes in capturing relaxed portraits, amazing details and real moments for the coolest brides and grooms on the planet.
This blog follows both my personal and professional life, and features images from the weddings I shoot, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me. It's basically like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients and a source of inspiration and education for other photographers. This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about. Thanks for visiting.
I love the week between Christmas and New Years. I don't do a whole lot, but in fact, I do accomplish a bunch of little things during this week every year.
I give the staff the week off, and have some nice alone time. I just like to organize my life a little bit during this week.
My room is as clean and organized as it's ever been. I donated a lot of old clothes that I don't wear anymore to Goodwill. The loft office is nice and organized, my fridge is practically empty after throwing away old stuff. I'll hit the grocery store on Friday to stock up for the new year.
I've been a tad under the weather this week. No big deal. I always seem to get a Christmas cold. I think it has something to do with finally allowing myself to relax, and then the germs take over. I am certain it's in my head.
I like to take time this week to make plans, lists, and set goals. Check back tomorrow for a list of what's on my mind for 2009.
As far as New Years Eve goes... I am not really a party guy. This is only the second year in the last 5 that I am not shooting a wedding. I was going to play in a poker tournament tonight, but I think I am just going to chill and watch a movie and/or TV. I'm sure I'll be in bed long before midnight.
Speaking of watching TV... I can't believe I never saw the show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". It is hilarious. I've already watched the first two seasons on iTunes this week and I am going to tackle seasons 3 and 4 over the next few days. Anyone else into this show? How come nobody told me about it?
Happy New Years everyone. Take a trip down memory lane with me as I recall a New Years Eve past:
I think my favorite thing about blogging is the fact that I now have an archive of my life. It's so fun for me to just go through past posts and relive my experiences. Since May of 2005, my life is pretty well documented and available to the public. Although I didn't blog every day in 2008 like I did in 2007, I still had almost 500 posts between this blog and the [ b ] School blog and posted over 1,000 images. At the end of each year, between Christmas and New Years, I really like to rest, relax and reflect on the past year, as well as organize, plan and set some goals for the coming year. This post is about the past year and some of my highlights of 2008, stay tuned for my 2009 agenda early next week.
There are my top ten favorite blog posts of the past year, in order of when they happened:
On April 9th, my sister April gave birth to my niece, Miss Addison Jane.
Later that month I spend hours and hours pouring through my external hard drives to pick my 20 all time favorite wedding images. It's wasn't just about picking my favorites, but going through to see how far I have progressed and keep progressing each year. This "photography thing" is a journey for me and I am loving the ride.
Caden turned 3 in June and we had a blast in the bouncy house... not to mention quite a workout!
In July, I was back at the WSOP and ran into the one and only Poker Brat, Mr. Phil Hellmuth Jr.
Who could forget the night the light went out and we played Poker after Dark by candle light.
In August, I made a few stops on my friend DJ's tour. I went to Denver, NYC, Boston and Washington DC. It was a blast. Life on a bus takes some getting used to, but it was great hanging with some cool people and meeting some new friends.
After almost 2 years of planning, The [ b ] School launched in October. We are still working on a couple little bugs, but overall the vibe is great and we are so stoked on what we are building. 2009 is really going to rock!
And most recently, I celebrated Ten years of the [ b ] logo. It's been a crazy ride and I am looking forward to 10 more wonderful years.
Thanks again for stopping by and taking an interest in my life. I look forward to blogging every day in 2009 so make sure you stop by first thing every morning to check in.
Yesterday I passed 100,000 miles on my Infinti FX 35 and I have to say, it's been a pleasure to drive. I've had the car just over 5 years now, and I have had virtually no problems with it (knock on wood). While I am planning on getting a new ride this spring, I can't recommend the Infinti highly enough if you are shopping for a car in that class/price range. It handles great, has some decent pick up and holds all of my stuff. My mom is going to inherit it when I get my new car and she is very excited about it. She is currently driving my old Dodge Durango... maybe you've seen her cruising around MV with a big [ b ] logo on the back?
I had a wonderful day with my family yesterday and hope y'all enjoyed your holiday too. I got up super early so that I could be there when Caden opened up his & Addison's presents (he helped her since she just tried to put everything in her mouth). We had a nice relaxing day. Lots of presents (those kids are spoiled). Good food, good times, and good fellowship. I hope y'all had a nice day too and I wish you the best on 2009.
Dad was trying to show Cade how to hold his new toy:
Like I said, everything just went into Addy's mouth:
Lots of wrapping paper:
I got the boy a fun new camera...
... and he was chimping right away (I'll post some of his shots at a later date):
I saw this over on Gabriel & Carlie's blog and had to repost it. Whether you believe in the religious portion or not, it's a very powerful message. Merry Christmas to you all!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much for your continued attention and support. I hope you all are surrounded by loved ones this holiday season and I wish you the very best in 2009. Here's my environmentally friendly Christmas card slideshow with a look back on the highlights from 2008:
I also just wanted to let all of our clients know that we are done for the year and out of the office until January. It's been a great '08 and we are looking forward to bigger and better things in 2009. Kat & Gina are settling in for some much needed rest and our album and reprint production will resume on January 5th. I will be available to prospective new clients on a limited basis between Christmas and New Years... just email me if you'd like to make an appointment.
And photographers with any [ b ] School support questions, you can still email support at thebschool dot com, but please be patient as the replies will not be as prompt as they usually are.
